Careers Education at Wellington

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance is a central part of the curriculum at Wellington. As a part of every student’s entitlement, we are committed to ensuring that everyone from Year 7 to Year 13 enjoys a wide variety of learning experiences which help them manage the key decision points in their lives. The education they receive prepares all students to make informed decisions about their next stage of learning or employment.

Careers Education

CEIAG is fully integrated into the School’s PSHE and Curriculum for Life programmes. Each year’s curriculum builds upon previous learning to ensure students have a wide and detailed understanding.

The curriculum and experiences offered to each year group are linked directly to the decisions and knowledge students will need at that point in time. Students also benefit from access to the Unifrog careers platform throughout their careers journey.

Unifrog can be accessed here: https://www.unifrog.org/sign-in

Students also have access to CEIAG as part of their formal curriculum. Each department has a ‘careers champion’ who oversees a wealth of enrichment activities and careers-related off-site visits, and subjects link their content to the current labour market. This enables students to explore individual careers and to develop the transferrable skills needed for employment.

Careers Encounters

Encounters with employers, colleges and universities enable students to make informed decisions about their post-16 futures. These are provided by external agencies and cover the full range of post-16 and post-18 pathways. Encounters with outside agencies may take the form of assemblies, workshops, drop-down experiences or full-day events in school. Students receive encounters with:

Careers Advisor

Students at Wellington have access to a Level 7-trained Careers Advisor throughout their time at school. Suzanne Acton will meet with all students at key decision points during their school life and is available on a drop-in basis at lunchtime every day except Thursday. Suzanne can be contacted by students and parents at any time connexions@wellington.trafford.sch.uk

During Key Sage 4 and Key Stage 5, each student will have an individual, extended meeting where they can discuss their future ideas and explore the full range of options open to them. All students can expect advice and guidance that is personalised, comprehensive and impartial. Students will also have access to their career plans on Unifrog.

Careers Opportunities

A wide range of co-curricular and enrichment activities, alongside a comprehensive schedule of workplace visits, enable students to build up a picture of the job market for young people. Experiences may include, but are by no means limited to:

Provider Access Policy

We have an ‘open-door policy’ towards visiting agencies at Wellington. We invite providers and employers into school to enhance our careers programme and engage directly with our students. We enable encounters to take place during the school day with a range of Sixth Form, Apprenticeship, Higher Education, Further Education and Training providers.

Employers – How Can You Help?

It is essential that young people have access to a range of workplaces and employers. We want students in all key stages to understand the labour market through employer engagement so that all of our young people will successfully transition from Wellington ready  and equipped for the world of work and life-long learning. As an employer you can help us to achieve this by:
