Year 12 Maths Event

On Thursday 30th June, fourteen of our Year 12 students attended an all-day mathematical modelling event at Manchester University.  The day involved taking part in two of six possible workshops and then presenting their findings back to all the attendees and organisers.   The sessions on offer were:  X-ray imaging, cryptography, shuffling cards (the maths behind), Make it Count (combinatorics), Toppling bridges (designing the greatest possible overhang) and simulation (including randomness).

Our students, as always, took part with enthusiasm and before we knew it, we were taking a quick photo outside the iconic Alan Turing Building before returning to school.  A definite day for the diary next year.
