World Book Day

Wellington staff, once again, threw themselves enthusiastically into the spirit of World Book Day 2024,  as you can see from the variety of weird and wonderful costumes and much to the amusement of the pupils!

The Harry Potters certainly had their work cut out with all the Dementors around.

Well done to Dexter Ripley who won a £10 Waterstones book token for his fantastic Monster book cake from Harry Potter ( you could almost hear its teeth gnashing!) but it was a close competition with a Wind in the Willows cake from Noah Warren and James Vyse and a delicious Fantastic Mr Fox cake from Joshua Giles.  A very busy cake sale raised £110.00 for the school’s charities. Eva Donohue was the deserving winner of the BOOKFACE competition with her very convincing picture and Kathy Jiang and Urvi Panchwadker will share their book token after winning the “Which book character is this staff member” competition.

A shout out to Jess, Evie, Ella and Amelia’s group in 9MPY for completing the form time quiz and being the only ones to correctly solve the crossword and reveal the hidden sentence  “Reading is magic”
So, it was a day of stories, and the Year 7 and 8s enjoyed having the story ” The Man with the Yellow Face” being read to them in installments throughout the day; a story that built up the suspense until the last installment – with teachers as well as pupils desperate to know how the story ended!

A big thank you to staff, the sixth form team for producing some fabulous “recommended read” posters,  and pupils for joining in and making the day such a success ; the message this year being to “Read your way” – to encourage young people to have choices in what they read and how libraries can help support and facilitate this.

Happy Reading everyone
