Maths Inspiration Trip

After an initial hiccup by the coach company, we arrived at the venue with only 10 minutes to hastily eat our lunch.  From then on, things went from good, to better, to best.

The speakers gave captivating talks about the mystery of patterns and the application of maths in our world today.  These included: the truth behind scary statistical headlines; what Chat GPT can do well and what we can do better; the study of fluid dynamics and how it can be used to accurately predict the distribution of pollution in the oceans and from the rivers; and finally the unpredictability of patterns and their application to juggling.  We were continually encouraged to think like a mathematician and question the seemingly simple and explore the possibility of alternatives.  A quote from one of our students:  ‘It was amazing and it was Maths!’
