Interschool Book Awards 2025

The Interschool Book Awards 2025 came to a fantastic close with one clear message—everyone was a winner! This celebration of books, creativity, and teamwork brought together students from across local schools, each showcasing their passion for reading in their own unique way.

Cat and Joanne, our brilliant judges from Trafford Libraries, had the tough task of choosing a winner but were particularly impressed with Wellington pupils’ use of humour in their presentation and our winning book, Until the Road Ends by Phil Earle, was crowned the ultimate winner!

And we really ended on a high note—not just with inspiring stories but with poetry, performance, and, of course, delicious treats. After enjoying hot chocolate and waffles, pupils from Altrincham Girls’ Grammar, Altrincham College, and Wellington School took part in a fantastic poetry workshop led by Young Identity.

Nasima, our workshop leader, used the themes from each school’s winning book selection—friendship, hope, and courage—to spark creativity among the students. Guided by her energy and expertise, they crafted and performed their own poetry; it was wonderful to see them stepping out of their comfort zones, embracing the power of words, and bringing their poetry to life.

One Wellington pupil said, ‘the most enjoyable part was being all together and talking about books without being judged’ another pupil commented,  ‘I feel like I have gained more confidence’ and ‘Honestly, the waffles were delicious!’
A huge thank you to Nasima  and to all the students and fellow librarians for their enthusiasm and creativity, and a big thank you to Trafford Libraries for their generosity, including the wonderful book token prize; hopefully this can now be an annual event, with even more schools taking part!
