International Women in Engineering Day

We celebrated International Women in Engineering Day on Thursday 23rd June in the Mathematics department.

Thank you to all of the tutor groups that took part in the inter-form quiz; first place went to 9MCE, with 9SCE and 7MBH in joint second place.

A huge well done to all of the students that took part in the bridge building competition at lunch time. Students had just 45 minutes to construct either the longest or the strongest bridge using waste paper, cardboard and Sellotape. Winners of the longest bridge were Cadence Williamson (8ASN) and Harry Durkin (7LTC) with a bridge measuring 61cm. Winners of the strongest bridge were Freddie Deighton-Brown (7GHE) and Dominic Chater (7MPY), with a bridge that took the weight of 13 exercise books and 4 GCSE textbooks (yes, they are standard units if measurement…). Coming a very close second place for both longest and strongest were Zak Clarke (7AHN), James Jackson (7RKY) and Oscar Badham (7LTC). A massive well done to Ella Henley-Wild (7BSN), Imogen Finan (7AHN), Eden Henderson (7MPY), Isla Senior (7SCR) and Alihan Sen Hatch (7SCR) who also built some impressive structures – I’m sure some of you will be engineers of the future!
