Holocaust Memorial Day

This news from Mr Cawley:

“Over the past number of years, the History department have been invited by Trafford Council to take part in the Holocaust Memorial Day event at Sale Waterside Centre. This year, we were asked to provide some artwork to act as a backdrop to the day’s events. Not being known for my artistic abilities, I called upon the help of Miss Grey, who was more than happy to be involved and thankfully took the reins on the artwork front, leaving me to stick to the History side of things.

9X1 took to working on the artwork throughout a number of their lessons and each produced a fantastic matchbox design that when joined together and supported by a backdrop, created a wonderful piece of artwork that provided the perfect accompaniment for such an important day of remembrance.

On the 29th of January, several pupils from Year 9, as well as 3 enthusiastic Year 12 students attended the event which gave them the chance to display their work, described in a fantastic speech by our own Annie Warburton, Zoe Tomlinson and Izzy Hornby. Both the speech and the artwork were very well-received by all of the guests, especially the Mayor of Trafford and a representative of the Greater Manchester Police, who have asked if they can have the artwork to be displayed during Hate Crime Awareness Week.

I would like to finish off by saying a massive thank you to Miss Grey and 9X1, who worked extremely hard to get the artwork completed and produced something thought-provoking and respectful to assist with the commemoration of something so important.”
