Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award

Congratulations to the 17 Year 13 students who last weekend completed their Gold DofE expedition. They started their expedition at Braithwaite Bridges near Keswick in the Lake District last Thursday. The weather started bright, but deteriorated during the hike. Despite the conditions, with great resilience, they continued and successfully finished their expedition on Saturday.

Sophie writes:

‘We just completed our Gold Duke of Edinburgh assessed expedition in the North Lakes. It was a challenging 4 days in which we faced torrential rain and strong winds, but through teamwork we were able to persevere and complete the expedition. We hiked around 14 km a day to elevations of around 650 m on fells such as High Spy. Thank you so much to Mr Eckersley, Miss Baker and Dr Lane as well as the instructors from Sam Sykes for organising and supporting us in the expedition.’

With the expedition section completed, many of the group are well on the way with the remaining sections of the award and will be hoping to collect their certificates at Buckingham Palace next year.

They have come a long way since they started on their DofE journey, with Bronze, in Year 9. They should be an inspiration to anyone participating, or thinking about participating, in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
