Dodgeball – National Champions!
This week we took 2 teams to the biggest ever National Dodgeball Championships in Fenton, Stoke-On-Trent, with some of our best Year 8 players unable to play as they are on MFL trips. Twenty schools from all over the country were taking part in the event and the standard gets higher every year. Both teams played brilliantly in their group games – the A team winning all 4 group games and the B team winning 3 out of their 4, so both teams qualified for the Quarter Finals – 2 teams in the top 8 in the country! The B team drew last years winners, Chellaston School (who beat us in the final last year) – narrowly losing 7-5. The B team played with great spirit and attitude with 2 year 7 boys in particular making the difference – players of the tournament for the B team were Harry Shea and Thomas Humphreys.
The A team however, made up predominantly of Year 7 students, smashed their way past everyone into the final. The final was also very one-sided with the boys not giving Acklam Grange an inch. They were by far the most disciplined and drilled team in the tournament but also showed some moments of brilliance with outstanding catches from Wilf Bryce-Kisby and Harrison Bowcott and hits from Finlay Proudlove and my player of the tournament, Benjamin Finney.
