Black History Month
The History Department planned several activities to celebrate Black History Month across the school in October. We wanted pupils to discover the contribution that black British people had made to the UK. We put plaques up around the School site commemorating the contribution of important black British people and asked pupils to research the impact that these individuals had on British History.
We also asked pupils to design their own plaques to commemorate Black History Month 2020. We wanted pupils to do something that captured the spirit of 2020 and the growing movement to achieve a truly anti-racist society. We were inundated with entries from pupils so decided to select a few winners and give out some rewards. Layton O’Brien Forrester, Isla Sullivan and Libby Wakes were our Runners Up and were given treats for their plaques and research.
Our overall winner was Jamie Spencer for his lovely plaque commemorating Marcus Rashford’s recent charitable endeavours. This excellent plaque will now be displayed permanently at School. Jamie won a copy of David Olusoga’s Black and British for his efforts too. Well done Jamie and all pupils involved!
