Trafford Book Awards

On Monday 23rd March, the Trafford Book Awards reached its exciting conclusion at Sale Waterside. Pupils from 11 Trafford schools took part this year, and attended this special celebration of reading.

We had the pleasure of hearing from all three shortlisted authors—one joining via video link—who shared insights into what inspired their stories, how they developed their ideas, and their individual writing processes. A lively Q&A session followed, with Eva from Year 8 confidently asking the first question and getting the ball rolling.

Afterwards, students were thrilled to meet the authors in person and have their books signed. Cynthia Murphy even mentioned she might use Isla’s name for a character in a future book!

Wellington pupils listened attentively throughout, and it’s clear we may have some budding authors among them in the years to come. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is already eager to take part again next year.

The overall winner was Keep Your Friends Close by Cynthia Murphy, although the Wellington favourite was The First Year by Matt Goodfellow.

Well done to all the Year 8 pupils who took part—you were marvellous!
