A-Level Biology – Ex-pupil returns to Wellington!

On Monday the 23rd March we were very happy to host a visit from an ex-pupil of Wellington, Abbie Ward. Abbie is in her 2nd year of a Biomedical Science degree at Sheffield Hallam University and kindly gave up her day to spend some time with our Year 12 and 13 Biology students.

Over the course of the day Abbie ran practical sessions for the Year 13s, giving them insight into the techniques and processes involved in studying Science at university by running practical sessions for both our Year 13 classes. They used a range of techniques including: gel electrophoresis; blood histology; and urinalysis to diagnose of a variety of patient conditions.

Abbie also spent some time talking to both Year 12 and 13 pupils about her university experience covering aspects such as: course choice; things to consider when choosing a university provider; accommodation; adapting to university life; and career pathways.

It was great to have Abbie back at Wellington for the day, and both year groups found the experience incredibly helpful. Hopefully Abbie will return again in subsequent years to give future A-level students the benefit of her wisdom.
