Whether unilateral intervention in other countries by the United States of America is a good thing or not is a very current topic, as will be the case for our next debating topic: This house supports the introduction of very lax immigration controls. Whilst debaters may have very strong views of topics such as these, the key thing is to make the case and win the argument. This week the team of Dilara Gencer & Saleha Hashemi did just that: of course, having countries such as the United States acting as it sees fit, with no curb other than the president’s own moral compass, is not a good thing. And the Proposition sides didn’t do nearly enough to justify why unilateral action is needed now – is the world so desperate? This is what they have to convince the judge of. Only one more week to prepare for our next big competition, Oxford University Schools Debate North, where we have four teams competing.
