Bake Sale to support ‘Phoebe’s Fundraiser’

Elizabeth H, Year 12 student, kindly organised and advertised an end of term Bake Sale to support ‘Phoebe’s Fundraiser’. This is an appeal which is close to Elizabeth’s heart given that she volunteers as a Brownie Leader in Timperley and has met Phoebe when she attends Brownie sessions with her aunt, Fluffy Owl. Personally knowing Phoebe’s family, Elizabeth wants to support their cause as best she can. Here is Phoebe’s story:

Phoebe is a lively, energetic, happy and fun-loving eight-year-old girl. She lives in Altrincham with her mum and dad and her twin brother. Unfortunately, in February this year, she was diagnosed with hepatic angiosarcoma – a rare form of liver cancer.  It is a particularly aggressive form of cancer which can only be fully treated by surgically removing the areas affected, and in Phoebe’s case every part of her remaining liver is cancerous. Her only option now is to have a liver transplant. Phoebe’s treatment is not available on the NHS, so the family are raising funds for Phoebe’s treatment abroad.

On the day of the Bake Sale, Elizabeth was ably helped by Penny C in Year 12, Milly R and Poppy G in Year 10 and Millie S in Year 9. They were rushed off their feet! Sixth Formers baked and bought stacks of cakes, brownies, doughnuts and cookies. Bakers extraordinaires were Aiza I, Freya M, Alex E, Lily G and Mrs Conyers – not a soggy bottom between them, Paul Hollywood handshakes all round!

Thanks must also go to Mr Tomlinson and Miss Pusey for ‘queue management’ on the day – so many hungry students, keen to buy the best bakes! Jude C, Oli E and Finn S in their Christmas jumpers (Team Lidl!) did a marvellous job of setting up the cake stall and a group of Year 12 students (Misha M, Samanta I, Zainah S, Krittika A, Aiza I and Sophie A-S) did a last big push in the afternoon, visiting classrooms and offices to sell the remaining cakes and boost the funds raised. We are really grateful for everyone’s efforts to make the sale a huge success, raising an amazing £203.06 for Phoebe’s appeal.
