Wellington Debating Society
The team of Jayden and Sourish came out on top, making the case for assisted dying as it returns autonomy to the patient, giving them dignity and alleviation of pain. The opposing teams made some valid arguments, with Chris and Sam raising concerns regarding how assisted dying may lead to vulnerable and young people dying without being in a position to take such a significant decision, and Saleha and Dilara arguing their concerns regarding how assisted dying would operate under an exploitative capitalist system that prioritises profit over concern for human life. Despite the strong points of the opposing teams, Jayden and Sourish won the debate as they successfully framed the debate on their terms.
