After school in Room 9 on Thursday, we had a great debate about the merits or otherwise of legalizing drugs. A team made up of Sam Coyle and Chris Bhattacharya from Year 12 made a very interesting case based on the merits of capitalism, a great performance for first-time debaters. Also, the team of Ruby Wang and Leyla Shi of Year 10 in the position of second opposition wrapped up the debate with skill – arguing how this would adversely affect young people. Sourish Chanda and Jayden Chan however did enough to win this debate, showing the many harms caused by legalizing drugs, being greater than the gains offered by the proposition. Next week we will be debating whether or not capitalism has failed.
