Year 8 German Trip to Boppard, on the Rhine
Thirty-eight year 8s accompanied by myself, Dr De Sacco, Mr Rispin and Mr Harrison spent last week visiting the Rhineland in Germany. The students enjoyed an overnight stay on the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam and then three days of visits in order to get to know this popular tourist region. On our first full day in the area, we visited Marksburg Castle in Braubach, Siegfreids Musical Instrument Museum in Rüdesheim. The weather was glorious: hot and sunny! Many students used this opportunity to practise the German they had learnt in lessons this year and ordered a Spaghetti Eis. Lecker!!! Day two saw us travel up to Cologne for the day to visit Cologne Triangle to take in the excellent views of the city and surrounding area, followed by guided tours of the Cathedral and the Lindt Chocolate Factory. On the final day we enjoyed a leisurely morning on the Rhine. The river cruise taking us up the Middle Rhine Valley past castles, historic towns and vineyards. However, the hi-light for many was the chance to order their very first Currywurst in Koblenz on the Deutches Eck, where the Rhone and Moselle rivers met. All those lessons practising, they finally got the chance to order in German and see if it had all been worthwhile!
