Year 12 Spanish Study Day

On Tuesday 28th November Year 12 Spanish pupils spent the day at Home cinema in Manchester for an A-level study day. The day started with a university style lecture which set out a brief synopsis of the film they were going to watch, information on the play it was based on and details of the director, Paula Ortiz. This was led by Dr Carmen Herrero from the Manchester Metropolitan University.

They enjoyed a screening of ‘La Novia’ a 2015 film based on ‘Bodas de Sangre’ a play written by Federico García Lorca. After lunch they studied the film in greater depth looking at the main themes and symbolism in the film. The day was a great introduction to film study which the pupils will be doing as part of their course later this year and Federico García Lorca, a poet and dramatist, the author of the play they will be studying in Year 13.

The pupils participated with enthusiasm in the activities and enjoyed the film immensely.
