Year 10 Geography Field Trip to Goyt Valley – River Investigation

Year 10 had a fantastic day out this week at the beautiful Goyt Valley, investigating how a river changes as it flows downstream. This practical fieldwork plays a key role in preparing them for their Year 11 exam, where they will be tested on their understanding of their own investigation in Paper 3.

Students took part in a variety of tasks, including measuring surface velocity using dog biscuits as floating markers, recording the channel’s width and depth, and assessing the size and angularity of the riverbed rocks. These activities enabled them to collect accurate and valuable data.

Despite the drizzly weather, the group showed excellent perseverance, remaining engaged and focused throughout. Their commitment and enthusiasm made the field trip a great success.

Well done, Year 10 — a fantastic effort all round!
