Wellington Debating Society
Debating Artificial Intelligence – a topic that is so current and so contentious – is always going to be challenging. However, this is also great preparation for the biggest School’s Debating competition in the North this week, at Lancaster University. With Six teams Representing Wellington this Saturday, this debate showed how difficult it can be to shift perceptions on what everyone already has opinions about. Why would AI be the one thing to ruin the Status Quo: how things are now in the world? Or, why is AI the one thing that can transform our lives and make the world better for everyone, especially the poorest? Every debate needs to come across as the most important debate to be having right at this moment. The team of Dilara Gencer & Jack Goodman managed to do this the best in last night’s debate. We head into the Lancaster University Schools competition well prepared. A 7.30am start tomorrow morning, a drive in one of the school’s minibuses up the M6, and a log day of debating, awaits!
