This week’s motion – that we regret the rise of Artificial Intelligence – opened up a real ‘can of worms’: what is the world letting itself in for? Whilst the Proposition Team made up of Dilara Gencer and Saleha Hashemi, painted a scary picture of a grim future, where AI let loose ruins the lives and livelihoods of a great many people, from artists to vulnerable members of society, the Opposition Team made up of Samrrudhi Nithyanandan and Kseniia Fartushna, put forward a pretty convincing case of how AI is transforming the effectiveness of so many people, from scientists to students, making us better versions of ourselves. In the end the potential harms outweighed the potential benefits, and the Proposition Team of Dilara Gencer and Saleha Hashemi won out. A great debate, and very good preparation for our upcoming competition at Urmston Grammar School.
