The Fed’s My Voice Guardianship Project
Yesterday was a truly wonderful day at Wellington School as a select group of Year 12 students had the privilege of meeting and interviewing three Holocaust survivors: Danny Herrmann, Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, and Anne Super. Wellington is proud to be part of the The Fed’s My Voice Guardianship Project, where every year we select Year 12 students to become the Guardians of a local Holocaust survivor’s story. Our pupils learn about each survivor and then have the chance to meet them to discuss their incredible lives.
Our students were an absolute credit to Wellington School throughout the afternoon. Their exemplary conduct was noted by all, including the volunteers from “The Fed” who facilitated the visit. From the moment they greeted our wonderful guests, their politeness, friendliness, and genuine interest shone through.
The students’ thorough preparation for the interviews was evident in the insightful questions they posed. They created a relaxed and open environment, allowing Danny, Lady Milena, and Anne to share their experiences in a comfortable manner. The survivors themselves spoke fondly of their time at Wellington, expressing how much they appreciated the respectful and engaging atmosphere our students created.
This opportunity provided our Year 12 students with an invaluable chance to connect with history on a human level. Beyond the facts and figures, they gained a firsthand understanding of the profound impact of the Holocaust and the importance of tolerance, remembrance, and standing against hatred. The lessons learned yesterday will undoubtedly stay with them for years to come. Once again, thank you to Danny Herrmann, Anne Super, and Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines for taking the time to visit.
Thanks also to The Fed’s dedicated team of volunteers for their assistance during the visit, ensuring everything ran smoothly. A special thank you to Jocelyn and Michelle from The Fed for including Wellington in the Guardianship Project.
This visit marks a significant step for our Year 12 students, who will now complete their project by producing a final piece of work. This will commemorate the life of their respective survivor, to be displayed as part of our remembrance for Holocaust Memorial Day.
