National Year of Reading

2026 is the National Year of Reading, and we are proud at Wellington to be supporting this initiative. Our focus is on reading for enjoyment—what motivates pupils to read and how we can best facilitate this, as reading plays such an important role in learning and wellbeing. Find out more here:

To celebrate the National Year of Reading, the website Authorfy is free for the entire year, offering a wealth of engaging author videos and reading content. Check it out here

World Book Day is also fast approaching, on the 5th March this year. There will be lots of fun activities in school to celebrate; look out for the World Book Day token which pupils will be given next week; these can be used to get a free book or £1 off any book of their choice.

The website can be found here with details of all the free £1 books that are on offer.

Don’t forget to explore the Accessit dashboards, which pupils can access at home at this address.

There are many great resources available—some are subject-specific to support study and revision, while others are just for fun. Star Wars is currently the most popular topic! You’ll also find a wide range of reading lists to help pupils discover their next great read; to support this our school library has now been re-organised by genre, making it much easier for pupils to find the types of books they enjoy.
