Iceland, November 2025

This week, I had the pleasure of accompanying a group of Year 11 and Year 13 students on our Geography trip to Iceland, alongside Mrs Martin, Mr Gleave and Mr Heaton. From the moment we arrived on Saturday, the excitement was clear.
Our first afternoon was spent exploring Reykjavík, which looked very festive with Christmas lights and decorations. That evening, we all enjoyed unlimited pizza at a local restaurant, where students had fun seeing who could eat the most slices.
Sunday began with a relaxing visit to the Sky Lagoon, where students soaked in the warm geothermal waters overlooking the ocean — a perfect start to the day. Afterward, we explored the Golden Circle, visiting Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and the impressive Gullfoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Each stop gave students the chance to see geographical features they had studied come to life.
On Monday, the group set off for the Sólheimajökull glacier. Equipped with crampons and ice axes, students experienced what it’s like to walk on a glacier — a real highlight of the trip. We then travelled to Vík beach, known for its powerful sneaker waves and distinctive rock formations created by solidified lava. The students were fascinated by the natural beauty and geological features of the area.
Later, we visited Skógafoss waterfall, the Lava Earthquake and Volcano Museum, and the impressive Lava Show, where molten lava was poured into the auditorium — a memorable and educational experience for everyone.
Throughout the trip, the students were excellent. Their behaviour was outstanding, and their enthusiasm for Geography was clear in their curiosity and engagement at every location.
It was a fantastic trip, enjoyed by everyone. The students returned home with new knowledge, great memories, and experiences that will stay with them for a long time.

Our recent trip to Iceland was amazing and offered many once-in-a-lifetime experiences, both of the flights to and from the country were super comfortable and quick. Throughout the 3 days we spent in Iceland, we were able to do lots of activities, my personal favourites were the ‘sky lagoon’, the glacial walk and getting to see the geysirs burst from underneath the ground.
I’d say that there’s been a nice variety of activities we’ve done between some being educational and some being purely for fun. One of the last things we did was experiencing a lava show which involved a person playing with lava as well as telling information about the country’s volcanic eruptions, this was just one of the many examples of things we did which could be adapted into knowledge for our exams.
As a whole, the trip was unforgettable; everyone between the teachers, sixth formers and y11 students all got on really well and it’s definitely been one of the best things about picking geography for GCSES.

We went to Iceland on a geography trip to learn more about all the geography over there. We flew over to Iceland and then traveled round the county by coach, which was super fun, and we got to see loads of sights while on the coach. We went and saw loads of waterfalls, climbed a glacier, went to the Sky Lagoon, which was an amazing experience, saw a lava show, and so much more. In Iceland, I learned all about the volcanos and how much damage they do, learned how glaciers are formed and how they move, and we learned so much more on the bus while travelling around and seeing sights from the bus. I absolutely loved Iceland; it beat my expectations by miles, and the amount of geographical terms and sights we saw were amazing and super interesting as to why the volcanos erupt and why/how, and all the facts we learned while travelling. It was an amazing trip; loved every second of it.
