Guinness World Record Breaking Attempt

On the 1st July, Jamie Oliver attempted to make history with the largest cookery school ever, at multiple venues including Wellington School.

19 of our year 9 pupils took part, learning to cook fresh pasta and produce a no-cook pasta sauce, from Jamie’s 10 Skills programme.

The current record is held by the Partnership for Health in Poland, with 6,778 participants in 2015. Jamie and his team hope to smash that record with over 10,000 sign ups, with participants signing up from Malaysia, the USA, Mauritius, South Africa, India, Slovenia, Portugal, Australia and all over the UK.

At 11am we joined Jamie and his team via a Zoom link. The class was led by Jamie’s Head Cookery School Chef Dimo Cerrone, with Jamie joining too. In order to count as an entry, each cookery class had to have 15 participants, one witness and one steward – massive thanks to our Year 11 Pupils Harvey Hannon and Aimee-Mae Stanton for agreeing to be stewards.

We had a great time making the dish and the year 9 pupils had a fantastic time learning a new skill, many of whom will use this again when they start the GCSE Food course in September.

As of yet we are still waiting to hear if the record breaker attempt was successful – keep your fingers crossed for us.
