GCSE REP Animal Research Visit
Forty GCSE Full Course students from Years 10 and 11 had the exciting opportunity to visit the University of Manchester’s animal research facilities. They were warmly welcomed by the researchers and technicians, who provided a guided tour of the building and an insight into the vital work being carried out there. Students were fascinated to observe sheep involved in studies exploring solutions to heart failure, as well as mice and rats used in research into schizophrenia treatments and the effects of appetite suppressants, not to mention the zebrafish, which also play a key role in biomedical research. The visit concluded with an engaging and thought provoking talk from Professor Iain Brassington, Professor of Applied and Legal Philosophy at the University of Manchester.
