EID CELEBRATION

On the 4th April we celebrated Eid with our school Community As charitable giving is key to the Islamic community it was wonderful that we could host this event whilst raising money for the Human Relief Foundation.

The evening started with a beautiful opening prayer recited by Hashim in Year 11.This was followed by speeches from our guests for the evening, Hafiz Ozair from Manchester Central mosque and Muhammad Talhah from the Human Relief Foundation. We were also fortunate to hear the words and thoughts spoken by one of our own Year 12 students, Sufyaan.

Hafiz explained how the five Islamic pillars were the foundation of his faith and can be used as a guide to fulfil your deen (life purpose). The floor was then taken by Muhammad from the Human Relief Foundation who explained about the work of the charity and what the money raised from the evening would be used for. Muhammad explained that £50 only would enable a person to have lifechanging cataract surgery and the difference any money raised would make. The closing speech was delivered by Sufyaan who spoke from the heart about his personal experience of Ramadan and the idea of self-control and patience with others, in particular in the context of the current political climate and the rise of Islamaphobia.

The celebration included both a stall offering Henna hand decorations and also one selling the most delicious handcrafted chocolate brownies and strawberries alongside a chocolate fountain. Unfortunately, the lady running the Henna stand was unable to attend last minute. However, as usual, wonderful Year 13 Wellington students saved the day and took over producing some beautiful designs with no notice.

As part of the celebration, we enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the Taste of India in Timperley. Abdul did a fantastic job of putting together a delicious menu including samosas, tandoori chicken and curries.

To conclude the evening, we ran a raffle to raise further money for the Human relief foundation. The donated prizes included a massage voucher, some taste of India food vouchers and also some EID cakes that had been donated by the Human relief foundation and Mama’s cuisine in Timperley.

Thank you so much to Zainab in Year 13 as she played a fundamental part in the planning and execution of this lovely event.
