EDI POLICY AND OVERVIEW

At Wellington our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is rooted in our core values of Community, Fairness, Excellence, Endeavour and Honesty. Together, these guide everything we do to ensure that every member of our School feels valued, respected and supported. EDI at Wellington is broad and encompasses several facets including race, gender, religion, SEND and LGBTQ+.

Community

We are proud to belong to a diverse community where everyone is welcome. We celebrate the many cultures, backgrounds and experiences that enrich our School, and we work together to create a sense of belonging for all. Our annual celebrations of Lunar New Year and Eid are an important part of our school calendar and enjoyed by a wide variety of our school community.

Fairness

We are committed to ensuring that every pupil and member of staff has equitable access to opportunities and that barriers are proactively removed. Through our Zero Tolerance policy we actively challenge discrimination and promote equity in all areas of School life.

Excellence

We believe that excellence is achieved when every individual can reach their full potential. By embracing diversity and inclusion we create a learning environment where pupils flourish and succeed.

Endeavour

As a community we continually strive to improve our understanding and practice of inclusion. Through ongoing reflection, training and collaboration, we work to develop our understanding of issues surrounding EDI.

Honesty

We endeavour to listen to the voices of our pupils, parents and staff and take responsibility for building a fair and inclusive culture together. This culture is partially driven by the active gender, race and LGBTQ+ committees that pupils belong to. It is vital that all students in the community view themselves as ‘Upstanders’ rather than ‘Bystanders’ in relation to any degree of discrimination.

At Wellington, equality, diversity and inclusion are not just principles, rather, they are at the heart of who we are and how we learn, grow and succeed together. Through our curriculum diet, assemblies, tutor programme and daily practice, we aim to prepare our pupils to become thoughtful, open-minded and compassionate citizens ready to contribute positively to a diverse world.
