Boys Hockey
The U13 Boys hockey team, made up of both Year 7 and Year 8 students attended a North West Tier 2 Hockey Tournament this week, at The Grange School in Northwich. As we normally play at Tier 3 level, this was a big step up for the team. They started well against the hosts and came away with a 4-0 win thanks to a hat-trick from Max Wakefield and another from Emil Cleworth. The second game was tighter against a strong Bishop Heber side and despite going down 1-0 the boys fought back and Max scored a cracker of a goal. This meant that the pool was tied on points and goal difference so we went to flicks. No-one had ever done a flick before but Max, Harry Shea and Sam Gough stepped up to represent out team. It went to sudden death flicks and we just edged it thanks to some outstanding goalkeeping from Harrison Bowcott. This then took us into the semi-final against Westholme and after another tight, end to end game, we yet again went to flicks to determine a winner. The same 3 boys stepped up to take our flicks and once again we made it through. The final was against St Bedes, another strong side and despite our best efforts, and some close chances, we lost 1-0.
A great performance from the team, the top placed state school in the tournament!
