Wellington Debating Society
Yesterday, after school, four of Wellington School’s debating teams took on four teams from Urmston Grammar School. The motions were only released fifteen minutes before the debates – to ensure the biggest challenge. They proved to be interesting debates: whether we should make unhealthy food more expensive and whether we should introduce an ULEZ charge in Greater Manchester. These topics ensured a very high level of debate, allowing our debaters to engage is some very complex and well-structured argument. The Wellington teams of Alia Shea and Eva McDonald in Year 9, and Sourish Chanda and Jayden Chan in Year 10, both achieved firsts in their debates, in what turned out to be a very successful night for the Wellington Debating teams. This was excellent preparation for our trip to Lancaster University on the 22nd of November, to debate against the best debating teams in the North.
