LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

Lunar New Year 2025- The Year of the Dragon

On Friday 31st January we celebrated Lunar New Year as a school community.

The hall was decorated beautifully with the help of the Art department, Mrs Potter (one of our wonderful hub managers) and the Sixth form events team. The contribution of the art department was fantastic and the displays of snake based art work produced largely by year 7 looked so impressive (despite terrifying Mrs Kearney with her Ophidiophobia)- sorry and thank you Mrs Kearney.

Several of our guests, of all ages enjoyed the craft activities and in particular relished making a new year lunar wish and hanging these on the wishing tree (still waiting for mine to happen but there is still plenty of 2025 left).

The music department helped to arrange some excellent musical performances. We had performances from Vania (Aggarwal) and Oliver (Hart) on classical guitar whilst Albie (Bentley) and Jayden (Wong) wowed with their electric guitar performances. Gaille (Yeung), Zainab (Hussain) and Lara (Ahmed) had also prepared some pieces on the piano for the event.

During the evening we were treated to a fabulous performance by Fenfen Huang of traditional Chinese dance. Fenfen has performed globally and is now a UK based actress, performer and dancer. Not only did Fenfen perform but she led a dance performance with our year 7 and 8 girls. During the afternoon the girls had been led through a workshop by Fenfen and ultimately performed a wonderful dance with fans and also the traditional dance of the dragon.

The evening was completed with a plenitude of delicious Chinese food. We cannot wait to do it all again next year.
