“Yesterday I took the Year 8 girls football team to the Manchester United U13 tournament at The Cliff indoor training ground in Salford. It was the team’s second time there so they knew exactly what standard to expect. The line-up was: Jemma Cave (captain), Daisy Glazebrook, Lucy Kilvert, Katy Worthington, Ruby Sykes, Amy Robbins, Milly Clayton and Esther Hoare.
The girls fought hard in all 6 games and there were some lovely pieces of play. Ruby Sykes was amazing in goal! We beat Manchester Academy 2-0 (goals from Jemma and Milly); drew 1-1 with Swinton (Milly scored); drew 0-0 with Walkden High; beat Irlam and Cadishead 2-1 (Amy scored the first then Milly scored a great header for the second goal); beat New Charter Academy 3-1 (goals from Amy, Milly and Esther); and in our final game against Sale Grammar we were unlucky to lose 3-2 in the final minute of play (both goals scored by Amy Robbins). The top two teams went through to a play-off final but we were very unlucky to finish in 3rd position, 2 points behind New Charter Academy School.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable day and the team did themselves proud as always.”
