Year 8 Football

Mr Morgan reports on another good early season result for the Year 8 football team:

“Away at ACA in a really competitive fixture, the boys continued their winning start with a 4-2 victory.  Andrew Vernon made the most of his final weeks at Wellington adding to his previous hat-trick with two goals, and with ACA having to play on a Monday night, Oli Higgins was able to return from Burnley duty, gaining and scoring a penalty in the closing minutes to finish the tie.  The whole team played well, particularly the defence and Ben Hurlstone in goal.

This was followed on Wednesday by another victory, 5-2 against Manchester COOP Academy in the first round of the Greater Manchester Cup.  The goals scorers Sami Essabi 2, Andrew Vernon 2 and Sam Gerrard are pictured.  Unfortunately, that will be Andrews last game in Wellington colours, as he and his family begin an exciting life down under, in Brisbane, Australia.  Big thanks to Andrew for his dedication to sporting life at Wellington, we wish him and his family all the best for the future.  So, the Year 8 team begin the search for a striker to fill his boots, his goal record is 7 goals in three games this season! It won’t be easy.  We have a squad practice match next week, so I’m looking for players to step up and rise to the challenge.”
