Year 7 Football
Mr Morgan with this match report:
“A fantastic result for the Year 7 football team away at Ashton in the semi-final of the Trafford League Cup. It was always going to be a difficult match against a strong Ashton team who had made it to the quarter finals of the English Schools Cup. A fast start by both teams with Andrew Vernon missing a few chances for Wellington, Ben Hurlestone was the busier keeper though pulling off some excellent first half saves. Ashton’s pressure told as they took the lead just before half time. The second half followed a similar pattern, chances at both ends with Ashton being the more accurate taking them into a two goal lead. With twelve minutes on the clock Wellington were 2-0 down, Kayden Lewis Thomas, Mason Berry and Michael Kay in defence were flat out trying to stop the Ashton third, a decision was made to move Ryan Tioffo to striker, Oli Higgins to centre midfield and Andrew Vernon to right wing, the game turned in an instant, Ryan Tioffo scored Wellingtons first, closely followed by Andrew Vernon with a well-earned second. 2-2 in injury team, Oli Higgins scored a fantastic third, wild celebrations and a famous Wellington victory. So the Year 7 team have booked themselves into the final of the Greater Manchester Plate Cup and the final of the Trafford league cup, they just have the semi-final of the Trafford cup to go. Well done to all involved.”
