Year 7 & 8 Rugby
On Tuesday evening, Mr Higginson and I took the Year 7 and 8 rugby squads to BTH for a rugby fixture. It was, however, a slight departure from the norm as it was a rugby league rather than union encounter (I shan’t outline the nuances of each code at this point). The Year 8s have had experience of rugby league through sessions delivered by Salford Red Devils in PE lessons and, indeed, played in a few tournaments last year. Consequently, they settled well into the game and ultimately dominated far larger opponents, running out comfortable winners.
The Year 7s have had no experience whatsoever of the 13-a-side game but took to it straight away – rugby is rugby after all. It developed into an enthralling encounter – real end-to-end stuff – with Wellington finishing victorious with a 5 try to 4 scoreline. It could and should have been a wider margin of victory but the same issues plagued us; insufficient willingness to pass the ball and a lack of coordination in our defensive line. Strong individual performances again, however, from Freddie, Michael, Toby and Teddy.
Hopefully, we can squeeze one more fixture in before the end of term; details to follow.
