Year 10 Maths Masterclass

“On Tuesday, seven Year 10 students attended a Maths Masterclass at Salford University”, writes Mrs Fairbairn.  “They were introduced to topology and learnt about the unique properties of a Mobius strip and how variations can by created by cutting the basic strip into halves and thirds.

In the afternoon, Colin Wright spoke about the mathematics of juggling and demonstrated the principles with a dazzling display of clever juggling tricks.

A thought provoking day, with unfamiliar maths topics explained in a practical accessible way, showing that University maths needn’t be scary!

As if that wasn’t enough, the day ended with a dragon quiz and one of our teams succeeded in coming second.  Well done.”
