Year 10 – GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition

This week has seen another amazing practical with the year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition group.

On Tuesday, pupils were given the challenging task of making flaky pastry. This pastry is very time consuming as it involves dabbing on the fat and folding the dough a number of times to create the layers. In between each time of adding fat and rolling, the dough also needs resting in the fridge.  At the end of the lesson we wrapped up the dough and stored in the fridge.

The following day pupils used their pastry to make a dish of their choice.  This worked extremely well with a range of dishes including vanilla slices, lemon custard slices, fruit turnovers and sausage rolls. All the products were amazing and the pupils did a great job.

Well done Year 10.
