World Day of Languages
Our World Day of Languages event took place in the Adshead Hall on Wednesday. 37 volunteers from all year groups delivered a taster-session of their language – there were 20 languages on offer! Year 7 and 8 pupils loved learning from their peers, and had great fun engaging in the activities that our language ‘teachers’ had prepared. The Albanian for chicken nugget – mish pule – seemed to stick in many people’s minds. Oi-Lam in Year 9 treated her pupils to a display of Chinese dancing with fans and velvet spinning cloths, as well as offering them a traditional Chinese good-luck envelope. Pupils were surprised to hear about languages and cultures they never even knew existed, and have had a small insight into the amazing skill that so many of our pupils possess. We were all wowed by their enthusiasm and talent, and can’t wait for the next time! A huge thank you to all our volunteers and our Year 7s and 8s who behaved and participated so well.
