U15 Girls Handball
“Last Thursday, at Sale High, the U15 girls handball team finished 2nd place in the Trafford Schools Handball Tournament. The team put out four fantastic performances against Sale High, Sale Grammar, Stretford Grammar and BTH, coming away with two wins, a draw and a loss.
Putting out a strong team of 7, the girls worked extremely hard in their first game against Sale Grammar, which was predicted to be the toughest. Jemma Cave created numerous opportunities, scoring two fantastic goals and just missed out on further shots due to the accuracy of Sale’s keeper. Sophie Hurlstone and Katy Worthington worked hard, constantly pushing the ball through the attack, opening up many opportunities. The game finished 3-2, just missing out on a final goal.
Warmed up and ready to play, a full team effort saw this game against Stretford Grammar finish with a 4-1 win. Fantastic goals from Scarlett Stepney and Jemma Cave who were supported by Izzy Bandiera-Leigh and Rosie Bradley in driving the ball through and across the court towards the goal.
Just missing out on a last minute goal meant the 3rd game finished with a 1-1 draw against BTH. Superb defending from Charlotte Christian, Katie Chown and Brianna Morrison who swapped into goal, saving numerous shots, broke down BTH’s attack, keeping the score down to 1.
For the final game of the Tournament the girls played against home team Sale High. Our strong team, with Ashley Dawber back in goal made it very difficult for Sale to retain possession of the ball or create any goal scoring opportunities. Jemma took full advantage of this and confidently played the ball around the court with excellent backing from Scarlett and Izzy, who combined with the rest of the team managed to secure a 3-0 win.”
