‘Ten Good Reasons’
Mrs Moorhouse writes:
“Here in the Music Department Miss Lee and myself are gearing up for our busiest term of the year! Over the next few weeks the Music Department will be busy preparing for a number of events which will take place both in school and outside in our wider community and we need you to get involved!
We are on the look out for new members – older ones who’ve lost their way and would like to return also welcome – to join our vocal and instrumental ensembles. And all the family can get involved, not just the members who are in school!
Miss Lee runs Wellington School Band on a Wednesday after school from 3.15-4.15pm. They perform a variety of different pieces from different musical genres: Pop, Musical Theatre and Film Music to name a few. We cater for all abilities so even if your child is a beginner on an instrument then Miss Lee will arrange a part just for them. Likewise, if you’re more of a rocker then rock along to Rock Band every Tuesday after school, we may even have enough members to create our own Battle of the Bands.
Sing are our Senior Choir who rehearse on a Wednesday lunchtime in Room 18 with myself and again we sing a wide variety of songs from different genres. All students are welcome and for this term any Year 7s who’d like to come along are also welcome in our rehearsals. Sing with 7s will continue with their own rehearsals on Friday lunchtimes as we have something amazing planned for our swansong at the Bridgewater Hall on Tuesday 17th September!
If your child takes advantage of our instrumental lessons in school (very reasonably and competitively priced) then they must attend an extra-curricular activity. If the club they want isn’t running – let us know, we’ll help them set up their own.
And if you’re not of current school age then never fear – get involved with our Community Choir. Rehearsals take place on the first-ish Monday of every month. Next rehearsal will be on Monday 13th May, Room 18 (Vale Building) from 6.30pm-8.00pm. Refreshments kindly provided by Mr Beeley.
Now in the words of a very wise man, on the 30th anniversary of this seminal album, I’ll give you ‘Ten Good Reasons’ to get involved in one of our many extra-curricular activities.”
