Swimming Gala
Miss Challinor with this report:
“Mr Morgan and I took 16 students to St Ambrose for the annual Trafford swimming competition. After last year’s success, we were hoping to do even better this year, especially with some fantastic Year 7 swimmers joining the school in September.
There was some fierce competition from St Ambrose and Altrincham Grammar Girl’s School, but we were very hopeful. We entered 2 teams for the boys and the girls and we were not disappointed. Strong starts in the 50m backstroke from all our teams, with Arthur Fletcher finishing his heat in 2nd place and Maisie Redman finishing hers in 1st. The 50m breaststroke saw our Year 7 National Champion Ben Davidson finish his race in 1st place – fantastic as he was swimming against some Year 8 boys. The 50m butterfly race saw Matthew Abbott and Emily Inns both finish their heats in 1st, and the final 50m freestyle race saw Ollie Moores and Nina Ferguson finishing in 2nd place.
All our teams competed in a 4x50m medley race, with 3 out of our 4 teams finishing their heats in 2nd place. The final race of the afternoon was the 4x50m freestyle race. One of our girl’s teams outswam the others in their heat by almost a full 50m, meaning they claimed victory in their final race, and one of the boy’s teams ended their last race with a very strong 2nd place. Out of the boy’s competition, our teams finished in 6th place and 2nd place- fantastic performances from them all, especially those who were swimming against the older boys. Our girls finished in 11th place and 2nd place- with 2 of the team improving on their Bronze medals from last year.
Amazing swimming from all of our competitors, but some outstanding performances from the 2 teams that took away silver medals this year.
As always our students were a credit to the school. Well done!”
