On Wednesday 27th April, I took a group of Year 9 and 10 linguists to visit the languages department at the University of Liverpool. We had a great time! We had the opportunity to work with some student ambassadors. We listened to music from different cultures and were challenged to guess the language! Definitely not as easy as it sounds… I got a much lower score than anyone else! We also had a “taster” Mandarin lesson, in which we learned greetings and numbers. The university was incredibly welcoming and very complementary about our students’ language skills. Some of our group were also brave enough to give some freshly installed gym equipment a try, revealing that they are not just language stars! The afternoon certainly gave our students some food for thought in terms of their future language studies. They were all an absolute credit to the school.
