Battlefields Trip

Eleanor Lloyd-Williams (9JHE) with this write up on the Battlefields History trip:

“On 18th October 2017, 38 Year 9 pupils and 4 members of staff went to France and Belgium to learn about the Battlefields of World War I. We were accompanied by a British Legion tour guide, Mike Scott, who told us so many interesting and funny stories about the War. We had the chance to visit many small cemeteries like Lijjsenthoek and Essex Farm (there are over 2000 British war cemeteries in Belgium and France), as well as bigger memorials like the Menin Gate and Thiepval. We all found the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate incredibly moving. We also had the chance to visit Langemark, the only German cemetery in both Belgium and France. It was an incredible trip and everyone had a great time. Though, the highlight of the trip for many may have been the trip to the Belgium chocolate shop on the last day!”
