Bee in the City

“For the past few weeks a lovely group of Year 7 students have been proper worker bees creating our bee for the Bee in the City Manchester trail” writes Miss Grey.

“The design reflects everything Wellington, from what we offer as a school, our ethos, academic life, history, extra-curricular and community work. The little motifs symbolizing these, buzz around the bee to show our day to day life here at school. The bee has been named ‘Welly Beeing’.

With colours inspired by our three charities as well as that classic Welly navy, we have a vibrant and contrasting piece. The students have been really diligent in completing the work and painting. Always full of ideas, enthusiastic and considerate, especially when it was quite busy (buzzy?!) and we were all painting at once. I think their favourite bit was doing a ‘Banksy’ for the wings with spray paint with their own 80 stencils.

We have been visited by the Bee in the City team and photographed, had lots of visiting staff call by to have a good look at their progress and been regulars on the department Instagram, so it’s been a hive of activity! The hours of work have paid off and the students have completed Welly Beeing, and I think it’s the ‘bees knees’!

The piece will be collected next week and we will find out soon where we are to be located and be part of this unique and inspirational trail around Manchester. Don’t worry we will let you know as soon as we find out!

Well done to the amazing Year 7’s who were involved!”
