Year 7/8 Handball

Miss Challinor with these match reports:

“On Thursday we took a team of 8 students to Sale High for the Trafford Handball tournament. We have always done well at this tournament and this year was no exception. Our team consisted of 3 Year 7’s making their debut, as well as 5 Year 8’s who have previously attended the competition.

Our first match against Stretford Grammar saw our girls go from 1-0 down to storming ahead, with goals from Grace and Talia, resulting in a solid 4-1 performance.

The 2nd game against Sale High was somewhat the same. This time it was Kate who joined Grace with some outstanding goals, helping Wellington to a 5-1 victory.

The final game and toughest of the evening was from Sale Grammar. With both teams having won their previous games, this was the deciding game to see who would progress to the Greater Manchester finals. Our girls fought hard but unfortunately the Sale team were a lot bigger and tactically more aware, meaning they were able to get through our defence and score twice. The final score was 2-0 to Sale.

Even though we sadly didn’t progress to the Greater Manchester stages, the girls played fantastically, with everyone working well together. After some more training and hard work, I see this little team going far!”
